Best Support for Beginners in League of Legends

Best Support for Beginners in League of Legends

League of Legends may look easy to play and learn in the first place. But the reality is, it is a very complex game that has 140+ champions with endless ability combinations. Just to learn the game, you not only need to know the abilities of these champions but also items, runes, neutral monsters, etc. In short, being a beginner you will have a long journey until you grasp the League of Legends and until then, it is best for you to play some champions for beginners in LoL.

You should keep in mind that there are also different types of beginners in LoL. You might have played other similar games such as Dota, or RPGs. If so, you will be much more familiar with game mechanics than other beginners. In this case, you might want to take more responsibility for your team and pick ADC champions for beginners. But if you didn’t play similar games or don’t feel like you know the basic game mechanics, you should pick champions that will not complicate things for you. In this way, you will have plenty of time to learn the game mechanics.

It is considered that in the low ELOs the support champions role on the team is the least crucial. You generally stay back in the team fights, don’t have to chase last hits from minions, don’t have to think about your build path too much. So picking the best support champions for beginners in LoL would be a great way to familiarize yourself with the game in general.

What is the Best Support for Beginners in League of Legends?

Now that you have decided to play with a support champion, it is time for you to choose one. While there are many suitable support champions for beginners, Soraka can be considered as the best support for beginners in League of Legends. Her skills are very easy to understand, not complex, and easy to use. You don’t have to show insane reflexes to play well with Soraka since her abilities are mainly focused to heal ally teammates. And in general, Soraka does not have to go with different items in different games. The item pool that Soraka should buy is limited and you won’t have to busy your mind with this either.  It is also a super suitable champion if you are playing with another friend.

Now that you have seen the general information of Soraka, let’s go into detail and take a look at her abilities:

Soraka’s Abilities

Salvation (Passive)

With her passive ability, you get a bonus movement speed when one of your teammate’s HP is low so that you can reach him in time and heal him if possible.

Starcall (Q)

When you cast your first active spell (Q) on an enemy target(s), you will deal magical damage to it and slow them. Also, if you don’t miss this ability Soraka will regenerate her HP. This ability is not hard to hit enemies and can be used to poke enemy targets. Apart from this, you can use this skill to a running enemy champion to slow him down. A great support ability for beginners!

Astral Infusion (W)

This ability is one of the reasons why Soraka is the best support champion for beginners in LoL. She simply heals allied champions with this ability. Staying close to your ally champions in fights and keep healing them at the right times are the most important parts of using this ability. If you spend your mana on other abilities and don’t save any for healing, it might create some trouble since your teammates will expect you to heal them. And they won’t be checking every time if you have enough mana!

Equinox (E)

Sorakas’ third skill (E) is also very useful and easy to use ability. Since it is not a skillshot ability, hitting the target(s) is also not that hard. Also, this ability is AOE (Area of Effect) which means all the enemy champions in the specified area will get affected. The enemy champions under the area of Equinox will get magic damage, but most importantly they will be silenced and unable to use their abilities for a short period of time. Even though this is a very short period of time, it can be very crucial in a team fight where even the order of the abilities used is important. At the end of the ability, enemy champions will be rooted and unable to move which will give your team an advantage. Don’t forget to use this ability in team fights!

Wish (R)

And here is Soraka’s ultimate! She instantly heals herself and her teammates. She won’t be healing fully but it will be a significant amount. Another good thing about her ultimate is that its effect radius is global. Using this ultimate is easy and this is one of the reasons why Soraka is the best support champ in LoL. However, with every ability in LoL, this has some difficulties. The main difficulty a beginner may encounter with this ultimate is that you have to get its timing right. If you use your ultimate early, then you would spend a significant amount of mana which can prevent using your other abilities in a possible near team fight. But most importantly, it will go into a cooldown which would complicate things. Since ultimates are the most powerful abilities, they usually have the longest cooldowns in LoL. If you get the timing wrong of Wish (R) then you will have to wait for 160 seconds to use it again! This is an incredibly long time to wait, as a team fight might occur in this nearly 3 minutes time, and without your ulti, your teammate can lose the fight. On the other hand, if you use the ability late, then your teammates will be dead and your ultimate will be almost useless, healing only you or only those who survive. To use the ability to its full potential, you have to use it in team fights before your teammates die.
